Iran Water & Power Resources Development Co. (IWPC),
affiliated to the Ministry of Energy, was
established in 1989, to study potential
locations for dam constructions, and other
hydraulic structures, including hydroelectric
power projects, and managing such projects, for
the purposes of flood control, water supply,
irrigation, and electric power supply, all over
the country.
Since Karun, Karkheh, and Dez large Rivers,
all pass through Khuzestan, so IWPC’s Projects
have mainly been centralized in this province.
There are other projects, as well, under
management of IWPC, for studies and
construction, in Chahar-mahal-e Bakhtiari, and
Lorestan provinces.
So far management of 34 projects have been
given to IWPC, through which, hydroelectric
power generation in the country will amount to
17902 megawatt.
